Finding Your Social Security Number

How to Find a Social Security Number

To find a Social Security number, you must first make sure that you have one. Not all people have one, so if youre not employed just yet and dont pay taxes, you will not find one at all.

If you have one, though, you must have a Social Security card. So, to find out your number, you should check your card, which features the number along with your name.

But if you dont remember where you placed your card, you can also check out your W-2s, tax returns, or bank statements. The Social Security Number usually appears there.

Another good option is going to your employer or former employer. Employers tend to keep Social Security information, so you may use this method if you dont have another way to find your SSN. Contact your employer and ask for a copy of your number.

Sometimes, the SSN may also be found on USCIS forms you filed previously, although its not always the case. If you dont have an SSN just yet and you need to file USCIS forms, you can still proceed by answering N/A in the SSN field. People with nonimmigrant visas usually dont have an SSN.

Ssn Theft Can Be A Huge Problem To Keep Your Sanity And Protect Your Identity Its Important To Learn How To Detect When Someone Else Is Using Your Ssn

Your Social Security Number, also known as SSN, is the key to your identity. If anyone gets a hold of it, they can steal your identity and easily impersonate you.

Unfortunately, an SSN can be vulnerable to theft. A hacker can crack open the most secure of accounts that you have and wreak havoc on your life if they get ahold of it. This makes most people wonder, “How can I check to see if someone is using my Social Security Number?”

As soon as a hacker gets access to your SSN, they will be able to do a host of things, including access your bank accounts, open lines of credit and new accounts in your name, open new credit cards, obtain your tax return, open memberships in your name, take out loans, and even use your health coverage.

Sadly, not everyone recognizes when they are a victim of Social Security Number identity theft. Someone in California might be using your SSN while you are in New York, and you might not even realize if you don’t pay attention.

To ensure you stay safe and to protect your sanity, its important to learn how you can tell if someone is using your SSN.
