How To Change Your Address with the SSA – IN LESS THAN A MINUTE!!

If you dont have the time to call the Social Security Administration on your phone or you feel more comfortable writing an email, then you can do so by writing an email to their support team. You can write them an email directly from their site. They will request your email address, a subject line and a message.

Why You Should Change Your Address With Social Security And Medicare Immediately

It is important that recipients of Social Security and Medicare benefits update the SSA about a change in address.

This requirement is so important that the SSA has included it in their publication What You Need to Know When You Get Retirement or Survivors Benefits.

Heres what the publication says:

Even if you receive your benefits by direct deposit, Social Security must have your correct address so we can send letters and other important information to you. Well stop your benefits if we cant contact you.

Social Security needs your address to send you communications about your benefits.

In addition, Medicare also needs your current address to send you important communications.

This includes the Medicare & You handbook each year and a new Medicare card.

If you have a loved one who receives benefits but who may be changing addresses soon, you can work with him or her to get a My Social Security account. The process will be the same as mentioned above.

All forms should ideally be signed by the actual account holder. You could help your loved one operate the computer, check for typos, or identify the correct place to click.

How To Notify The Ssa Of An Address Change For A Sick Or Incapacitated Loved One

You may be a health care proxy for a relative who is sick or in danger of being incapacitated. You also may simply be a close relative who knows your family member could get sick suddenly.

There are a few things you can do to help your family member work with the Social Security Administration. They interact with family members frequently and will understand why you are part of the process.

The first steps are for preparing early before an illness or incapacitation. If this is possible, youll have better decision-making control in case of an emergency. The latter steps are good courses of action if an illness or injury comes on suddenly without time to plan.

    Contacting Social Security By Phone

The website is a great place to start, but sometimes the information provided may not seem to address your situation or answer your particular question. So your next step might be to call. If you call, you can perform many services through the automated system, including requesting a benefit verification letter and/or statement of your benefits, inquiring about the status of a claim, applying for a replacement card, finding the address of your local office, and conducting some business related to Medicare.

If the automated system isnt enough, you can speak to a representative between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The Social Security Administration provides interpreters free of charge. You can call 800-772-1213 to speak with an interpreter who speaks Arabic, Armenian, Chinese, Farsi, French, Greek, Haitian Creole, Hmong, Italian, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Somali, Spanish, Tagalog, or Vietnamese. You can also schedule in-person appointments, during which time the Social Security Administration office will arrange for an interpreter.
