What Are The Benefits Of Electronic Payments
- With direct deposit or Direct Express, you don’t have to worry about a check being lost or stolen in the mail.
- Your payments are automatically put into your bank account or onto your Direct Express card.
- You won’t have to stand in line to cash your check or pay any check-cashing fees.
- Your benefits will be available to you on the start of the business day you are scheduled to receive payment.
Direct Deposit For Service Providers
If you provide a service or supplies to someone who receives assistance, you can get payment directly from the B.C. government:
- Complete the Direct Deposit Application for new activations;or changes
- Drop off or mail the complete form and voided cheque to your local office
- It will take about six to eight weeks to process
You dont have to complete the form if you already receive electronic payments from another B.C. government ministry or organization. Call 1-866-866-0800 to set up payments from the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction.
Exceptions To The Usual Schedule
Your payment will arrive on an alternate schedule if you fall into certain categories. It will be made on the third day of the month if:
- Your state is paying your Medicare premiums.
- You started receiving benefits prior to May 1, 1997.
- You reside in another country.
- Youâre receiving both Social Security benefits and SSI payments.
But thereâs an exception to the Social Security/SSI rule as well. Youâll receive payment on the first of the month rather than the third day if youâre receiving SSI due to disability, blindness, or age.
SSI is needs-based. Itâs not something you paid into over the course of your working career, like Social Security retirement or disability benefits or Medicare, so itâs possible to collect for these reasons without also receiving Social Security retirement or disability benefits. SSI is intended to pay for basic food, shelter, and clothing needs.
Your payment will come the weekday just before the usual date if your payment date falls on a weekend or a federal holiday.
You can find calendars on the;Social Security Administrationâs website, Schedule of Social Security Benefit Payments 2021, to pin down the exact dates in 2021 depending on your circumstances.

If you choose this route, heres a tip. Call your local office instead of the main Social Security line. In many cases this will cut the wait times in half.

What’s An Electronic Transfer Account
If you don’t already have a bank account, some banks offer what is called an Electronic Transfer Account . ETAs were started by the federal government to make sure people who receive certain federal payments have a place to get their payments deposited directly. There are certain guidelines an ETA must follow, which include charging a fee of no more than $3.00 per month and allowing at least four cash withdrawals a month. Some banks have ETAs that allow you to withdraw money from an ATM. For more information, speak to a bank or credit union that offers ETAs, as they may differ.

The VA includes biological parents, stepparents, and adoptive parents in the definition of parents. - Children: Unmarried children who are under 18, between 18 and 23 and attending school full time, or over 18 and disabled. The VA includes stepchildren and adopted children.
- Parents: Parents who are dependent on you for care and fall under predefined income and net worth thresholds.
