What Is Proof Of Income

How Can I Get My Son

Landlords use a document known as proof of income, which allows them to confirm the average earnings of a prospective tenant. Landlords use this information to make sure the tenant can cover the monthly rent, and it is a great way to screen tenants to ensure they arent renting to an unprepared tenant.

In some cases, you may want to request more than one type of verification. For example, prospective tenants who receive weekly payments but can only provide a few stubs should also be asked to provide an employer verification letter. This letter will show you that the tenant is employed long-term and that these payments will continue for the foreseeable future.

Some types of income proof might be out of the realm of what you are used to seeing, but that doesnt make those types of income less worthy. For example, freelancers may need to provide 1099s and bank statements rather than an employer verification letter because they work with a variety of clients.

Review each document carefully, and be sure to follow all local rules when determining tenant eligibility based on income.

Obtaining/reclaiming Your Social Security Number

Over time, the US Social Security Number has evolved from merely the number of your account for retirement savings to something akin to a single national identification number that follows you throughout your US administrative life. It is indispensable on passport applications, tax returns, financial account reporting and numerous other business forms. And now it has gone international: under FATCA banks and other financial institutions around the world are required to ask American citizen clients for an IRS Form W-9 , which includes their SSN.

For many American citizens living abroad, such requests may cause panic. They havent thought of their SSN for years . Some never had one some have lost theirs, dont remember the number, or dont even know if they ever had one. So, yet another unanticipated fallout of FATCA is the extra workload falling on American embassy and consulate Federal Benefits Units around the world.

Add to this mix the enhanced requirement for high-quality, verified documentation prior to issuing a SSN, due not only to FATCA, but to various recent laws aimed at countering fraud and fear of terrorists. The bottom-line message, particularly for Americans residing abroad, is: verify now that you and any citizen you want to claim as your dependent, have SSNs. If not, roll up your sleeves, assemble your documentation, and apply as soon as possible, because it costs time to obtain a SSN.

How to Find a Social Security Number

If you are receiving Supplemental Security Income benefits, its because, in addition to having a disability, you are also in need of financial assistance. Because of this fact, there are times when it might be necessary to show other agencies that you are indeed receiving benefits. If you are applying for government assistance with housing, for example, or trying to get loan for a house or car in cases like these, your total income and assets are important, and will go towards making the final decision. For reasons like these, you might find yourself having to list or show your SSI benefit amount. For this reason, the SSA has made it easy for you to obtain a proof of income letter, otherwise known as a benefit verification letter.

What is Proof of Income for SSI?

As stated above, a benefit verification letter is simply an official letter from the SSA stating the basic facts about your disability situation. In this case, the proof of income is just that proof that you are receiving X amount per month in disability benefits.

How Do You Get a Benefit Verification Letter?

The SSA has made it extremely easy to get this proof of income. The easiest and most convenient way is to simply go here to the SSA page. Once there, youll need to log in . Once logged in, go to Top Services and Services for people currently receiving benefits to get to the appropriate page. Once you make the request, note that it will take about 10 days to receive the letter.
